  1. Hi Judith
I’ve been looking through some old photos lately and would love to get back in touch with your big sister Linda – a friend from Katoomba days. Can you pass on my email address to her?

  2. Both the emails I’ve found for you send me back a failed delivery message. You were kind enough to interview me back in 2003 and I am deeply indebted to you for the nice things you have said about my work. My latest book, which will be published in early October, is set in Australia and will be on sale there, too. So I wondered if I should ask my publishers (Usborne) to send you a copy (if they haven’t done already), in the hope that you will enjoy it, despite my shortcomings in failing to be an Australian author.

I hope life continues to be good to you and that your work brings you the same pleasure it always did.

    Love and best regards

    Geraldine

  3. Hi, I follow you on Twitter and wondered if you would be so kind as to recommend some titles for my two granddaughters aged 7 and 5 please? They live far from me and so I’m having to guess about books for them.Their mother reads to both of them and the elder reads for herself. My email is “christieegginton@yahoo.com”..Thanks if this is ok with you…Love your cats.

    • Hi Chris,

I’m going to add this as a comment, and perhaps some other people might also add suggestions, but I’m emailing as well to be sure you get the response.

It’s hard to know, of course, what our daughter might already be sharing with the girls, but here are some books I really like for this age:

The Violet Mackerel books by Anna Branford, illustrated by Sarah Davis
The Billie B Brown books by Sally Rippin
The Alice Miranda books by Jacqueline Harvey
The Princess Betony books by Pamela Freeman

These are all Australian series, and very successful and popular, so they may already know them.

I also love the Clarice Bean books by Lauren Child (picture books and novels).

The older girl might be ready for the Our Australian Girl books—historical fiction.

Walker Books do a lovely series called Walker Stories which are short stand-alone chapter books for kids your age. Similarly, Scholastic have a series called Mates—all Australian authors.

I hope that’s a start, and if I think of more I’ll get back in touch. And I hope some other people might chime in. Cheers!

      • Depending on the girls’ reading levels……
Ivy and Bean series by Annie Barrows (7yrs)
Lulu Bell series by Belinda Murrell
        Aussie Nibbles series (various authors)
The Cryptic Casebook of Carlo Carmango series by Ursula Dubosarsky
        The Wilderness Fairies (1 & 2) by Jodie Wells-Slowgrove (7yrs)

  4. My 7 year old daughter is loving Beverly Cleary’s Ramona books at the moment, as well as Ahn Do’s Weirdo and the 13, 26 & 39 Storey Treehouse books. She liked Billy B when she was 5. She was also very fond of the Mary-Kate books by Helen Morgan.
