Note that I do not as a general rule provide assessments for picture book texts, but queries are welcome, particularly for longer picture books for older readers.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, I also offer assessments of commercial women&#8217;s fiction; contemporary realism and historical fiction are particular areas of expertise.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1849db;\"><strong>Fees:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>My fees for a full\u00a0assessment\u00a0of a\u00a0manuscript:<\/p>\n<p>30,000\u00a0to 60,000 words: $550<\/p>\n<p>60-100,000 words: $750<\/p>\n<p>Under 30,000 and over 100,000 words by negotiation.<\/p>\n<p>This will include comments and feedback on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>structural\/logic issues<\/li>\n<li>plot and character<\/li>\n<li>language (where relevant)<\/li>\n<li>age appropriateness<\/li>\n<li>Identification of potential solutions to problems of logic, consistency in story, character<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>This does not include a copy edit, but I will comment on any recurring problems (eg common spelling errors, punctuation of dialogue).<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1849db;\"><strong>Satisfied clients:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><em>Judith was once my editor and I\u2019m now very lucky to have her as one of my\u00a0<\/em><\/em><em><em>beta readers for my books.\u00a0 I can\u2019t count the times she has pointed out a new way of thinking about a story, or stopped me from making a disastrous mistake!\u00a0 There is probably <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-980 \" src=\"http:\/\/misrule.com.au\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/the-soldier-s-wife-194x300.jpg\" alt=\"the-soldier-s-wife\" width=\"152\" height=\"229\" \/>no one in the country with a more extensive knowledge, and a more thorough understanding, of young people&#8217;s publishing.\u00a0 I\u2019m delighted that she has decided to freelance as a manuscript assessor, because it will give me the perfect person to refer aspiring writers to!<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/em><strong>Pamela Freeman, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pamelafreemanbooks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">author<\/a> of more than 30 children&#8217;s books, including\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkerbooks.com.au\/Books\/Victors-Quest-9781921150319\" target=\"_blank\">Victor&#8217;s Quest<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkerbooks.com.au\/Books\/Black-Dress-9781742031637\" target=\"_blank\">The Black Dress<\/a>, winner of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sl.nsw.gov.au\/about\/awards\/premiers_awards\/nsw_premiers_history_awards\/premiers_history_awards.html\" target=\"_blank\">NSW Premier&#8217;s History Prize<\/a> and, as Pamela Hart,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hachette.com.au\/authors\/detail.page?id=ok1Dj0A-\/QX6pXr2b0v8-HDSJqN9muXQPi9oCIqxrRtTptMyRdFTPmhe\" target=\"_blank\">The Soldier&#8217;s Wife<\/a>. I thought I was just taking a break from \u2018proper\u2019 novel writing, but found the course so engaging, and Judith\u2019s tutoring (even online) so clear, intelligent and confident, that this little book completely took over my creative energies, and became my first fiction published. Now I\u2019m writing the second one.
